Better water quality outcomes are not only important ecologically, but they also enhance liveability aspects for communities.
The Urban Water Stewardship Framework (UWSF) has been developed to support Queensland local governments and the development and construction industry to evaluate their urban water management practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
The tool has been developed for assessing and reporting on the level of management practice being applied to:
Three Councils in South East Queensland have piloted the framework, working together with the Healthy Land & Water’s Water by Design program to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and aligned with the needs of councils and local community expectations.
Queensland local governments have key responsibilities for managing urban water pollution and maintaining and protecting the health of local waterways for the benefit of their communities.
Targeted investment and support increase the likelihood of achieving real urban water management improvement and resultant positive water quality outcomes for local waterways.
Here's a snapshot of just some of the action over the past 5 years. These numbers will grow as more groups from across the region contribute their data.
*Numbers as provided by contributors to the stewardship pilot (for the period 2019/20 - 2023/24). These numbers will increase as more groups from across the region submit data to the stewardship initiative as the project grows in the coming years.
