Going fishing? You need this app!
The Queensland Government’s Department of Agriculture and Fisheries recreational fishing app has undergone a suite of improvements. It has now reached over 100,000 downloads and counting!
The app was released in 2020 and has been a one-stop-shop for recreational fishers ever since! Click here to download it.
It includes plenty of handy tools including helpful information about rules and closures and is continuously being updated and improved in response to feedback from recreational fishers. Thanks to the most recent round of updates, you’ll now be able to:
- Identify your catch – the app uses AI to identify common fish species, so the more photos that are uploaded, the better trained the app becomes.
- Check the rules for your fishing spot – the ‘Can I fish here?’ feature has been updated so that you can see when you are near or in a marine park zone.
- Hyperlinks have been created from ‘Can I fish here?’ to relevant ‘Know the rules’ sections.
- Receive reminders about closures.
- Find fish aggregating devices (FADs), boat facilities, stocked impoundments, and artificial reefs.
- Buy a permit to fish in stocked dams or weirs.
- Learn more about your catch, like the age of a fish and fish stock biomass (where available).
- Find Queensland weather and tide information.
- Send questions, information, or feedback.
- Use the app in remote locations and areas with limited reception.
- Quickly identify pest fish and species with temporary restrictions with newly added symbols.
A reporting function will also be available by 1 July 2024.
