Last month, Healthy Land & Water contributed to The Moreton Bay Foundation’s third annual Day on the Bay “long lunch” on Saturday 15 October, with a fantastic turnout of Moreton Bay stakeholders.

Moreton Bay Foundation's third annual Day on the Bay "long lunch" with a fantastic turnout of stakeholders.Held at the Little Ship Club on North Stradbroke Island, tours of the UQ research facility and delicious sustainably sourced seafood were interspersed with wonderful talks by researchers and science communicators.

The vital research facilitated by The Moreton Bay Foundation throughout the past year illuminated the effects of human intervention on the bay and all the flora and fauna that call it home.

The day also featured talks about the exciting research and conservation activities planned for the year to come, with the catchment needing some urgent restoration work after the past wet seasons.

It was great to see that investment in research and awareness were the main themes of the day, as public and private enterprise advocacy is still needed in the conservation space.

Throughout the eye-opening talks, it was heart-warming to hear Healthy Land & Water acknowledged by speakers as a major long-term and trusted stakeholder of the bay and partner of the foundation.

One of the key highlights of the day, according to Healthy Land & Water’s Strategic Science Manager, Dr. Grace Muriuki, was the auction. Held in proper auction style, the people gathered to bid against each other for a good cause – the future of the bay. The prizes were just an added bonus.

Other fun activities throughout the day also helped contribute to the building of awareness and investment in the bay, ensuring that Moreton Bay remains healthy and productive for a long while to come.
