Conservationists vow to work together to improve Logan and Albert catchments
The future of the Logan and Albert catchments looks bright after some of the region’s most passionate conservationists vowed to work together and plan for the future during a community gathering in Beaudesert recently.
On April 28, near the banks of the Logan River at Mununjali Hall, about 25 people representing 18 conservation groups from across Scenic Rim and Logan met to discuss the past, present, and future of rehabilitation work in the Logan and Albert catchments.
About 25 people representing 18 conservation groups from across Scenic Rim and Logan met to discuss the past, present, and future of rehabilitation work in the Logan and Albert catchments.
The gathering, organised by Logan and Albert Catchment Association (LARC) and Healthy Land & Water, was designed to build understanding and inspire collaboration between the region’s landcare groups.
Representatives from the Scenic Rim Regional Council and the state government also joined the discussion.
Healthy Land & Water Southern Area Manager Dennis Gannaway said some attendees were surprised to learn similar projects to their own were underway and some project boundaries overlapped.
“People left the meeting with renewed vigour because they built new connections and realised they weren’t working on their own,” he said.
“It made them realise there’s considerable work being done, they’re not isolated and there’s a lot of scope to work together, pool resources, and cross-collaborate on projects.”
During the gathering, attendees added their conservation projects to a collective map which will be used to identify target areas, reduce project overlap, and help build a holistic plan for future conservation work in the Logan and Albert catchments.
Attendees also vowed to meet twice yearly to ensure their efforts to preserve the region’s waterways remained on track.
