Healthy Land & Water team attend annual Pineapple Field Days 2025
Growers and industry partners from the pineapple industry joined together on the Sunshine Coast recently for the pineapple industry’s annual event – Pineapple Field Days.
Lene Knudsen from Healthy Land & Water's Sustainable Agriculture team and SEQ Node Manager attended the event where innovation and trial work were on the agenda as well as tours of the Sunshine Coast pineapple farms.
The pineapple field days always bring growers, researchers, and industry supply chain members together to talk openly about the challenges the pineapple industry is facing. This year was no exception and conversations started around the trial work and innovations on display.
One of the highlights was the examination of applications of potassium phosphonate in hybrid pineapple production. Grower Ben Stokes shared positive preliminary results achieved from dip treatment.
On the next farm visit, local grower Sam Pike shared information about the trials he’s undertaking using Lono nitrogen and bio-stimulants which is seeing stronger roots, better establishment, and good potential to minimise nitrogen losses without sacrificing yield.
After lunch and a presentation on consumer choices, followed by a taste test of local pineapples, the next stop was Pine-Co, where grower Faruk Buzaki showcased his latest innovation: a prototype of an automatic pineapple planter. In a labour-intensive industry like pineapple farming, this exciting development was one of the highlights of the day.
Farm visits and hearing innovations and new ideas from growers was a highlight of the day.
The event also featured Metagen, a company performing DNA analysis to help growers better understand soil microbiome and how different practices impact productivity.
