Grants up to $75,000 available for the Looking after Country Grant program
Grants up to $75,000 are available for First Nations organisations to undertake environmental and cultural heritage projects. Applications must be submitted online by 4:00 pm on Tuesday 20 August 2024.
The Looking after Country Program supports initiatives involving First Nations communities in planning and executing on-ground conservation efforts on their land. It also aims to enhance organisational capacity for land stewardship by improving skills, and knowledge, and fostering collaborative partnerships.
Funded project activities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing cultural sites.
- Monitoring and conserving protected species.
- Revegetating and restoring habitats.
- Fire management.
- Erosion control.
- Facilitating inter-generational knowledge exchange on Country.
- Developing and implementing land management plans.
The program aims to build community capacity to deliver these projects and to develop strong partnerships in caring for Country.
