Farmers, the online platform to help you manage climate risks has been improved!
The portal is a great resource for farmers to assess how the climate variables that matter to their business could change in the future at their location.
The platform was developed to help Australian farmers adapt to climate variability and related trends and thereby increase the viability of their businesses.
It provides practical information to help landholders manage climate risks and build drought resilience and climate adaptability.
Climate Service for Agriculture improvements
The platform developed in collaboration between the Bureau of Meteorology and the CSIRO, is called Climate Service for Agriculture and has been made possible by funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund.
The Climate Service for Agriculture portal provides historical climate data, seasonal outlooks, and future climate projections to help inform decision-making and build drought resilience.
Since its release in June 2021, many improvements have been made to make sure that it responds to farmers’ needs.
The latest engagement across the agricultural sector, which included testing in pilot regions, resulted in new additions that would give more farmers and agricultural businesses a clearer picture of climate trends likely to impact them.
Those additions include three new commodities: mangos, potatoes and bananas, and a new Temperature Humidity Index for beef, dairy and sheep. There is also new user customisability of thresholds and date ranges, the addition of a News section, and updated FAQs and about pages.
