The story oflocal action

Bremer River Network

The Bremer River Network is a network of landcare, catchment and environment groups and organisations who are all working to improve the natural environment of the Bremer River catchment.

Linking experience, knowledge, people and action

The network is guided by these catchment-wide objectives:

Back with a vengeance

The Bremer River Network was revived in August 2023 with a facilitated workshop held in Kalbar which raised awareness of the challenges and activities across the catchment and identified collective priorities of the network. A Steering Committee meeting was held in Ipswich in October 2023, whereby a new Terms of Reference was established.

Growing local knowledge & networks
  • Supporting the sharing of experience, knowledge, and information across the network.
  • Enhancing communications between partner groups, particularly to improve activity planning and co-ordination and to avoid duplication of effort.

Supercharging collaboration

The project also addresses climate change impacts. Rising sea levels are expected to turn parts of the area into estuarine wetlands, creating opportunities for new land uses.

Supporting collaborative endeavors
  • Promoting the activities of individual Bremer River Network partner groups, collaborative endeavours between members, and as appropriate, activities of other bodies that align with the Bremer River Network purpose.
  • Where applicable and feasible, providing a platform for joined-up activities, projects, or interventions to amplify the impact of individual groups and entities.

Bringing local people together for action

Great gatherings in the catchment
  • Collaboration with the “Reynolds Creek Platypus Pathways’ workshop in May 2024. The workshop had a total of 26 registered attendees, which included local landholders and representatives from the Bremer Catchment Association, Boonah and District Landcare Group, Somerset and Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association, GrowCom, Qld Farmers Federation, Queensland Water and Land Carers, Scenic Rim Regional Council and Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Association.
  • Support at the Scenic Rim Agricultural Expo, Harrisville, August 2024, with representation from Ipswich Koala Protection Society, Bremer Catchment Association, Boonah and District Landcare Group, Scenic Rim Regional Council.
