Dr Eva Abal - Science Committee
Dr and UQ Associate Professor Eva Abal is a leader in integrated science strategy and a knowledge integrator.
She has joined the International River Foundation after years of experience including over 15 years as Science Director with Healthy Land & Water, and nine years as Strategic Science Director/Chief Scientific Officer with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (a not-for-profit organization that connects businesses to research in solutions), and six years as the Director, UQ Water Initiative and Sustainable Water Program of the University of Queensland’s Global Change Institute.
In these roles, Eva has demonstrated skills in leading and managing large-scale transdisciplinary programs toward a path to impact. Eva is experienced in establishing and maintaining collaborative networks, strategic alliances, and applied research initiatives.
Dr Abal sits on several independent expert/advisory panels such as for the Great Barrier Reef 2050 Plan, Healthy Land & Water, Fitzroy Partnership for River Health, Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership, Greening Australia, and Gold Coast Water.
Her deep passion and commitment to integrative pathways that bridge research/academia and managers/policy makers are evidenced in her being invited by the Asian Development Bank to be one of the authors of the Asian Water Development Outlook 2011 and 2016, which charts progress in water security in Asia and the Pacific.
