Last week we said thank you and farewell to our Senior Principal Scientist Dr. Paul Maxwell. 

Paul brings with him a fantastic sense of humour, incredible passion, and endless support which will be missed by everyone at Healthy Land & Water.

We are excited about what lies ahead for Senior Principal Scientist Dr. Paul Maxwell. 

Paul joined us in 2014 and for the past six years has focused on assessing the ecological response of waterways to changing stressor levels. He maintains a research portfolio focusing on the relationships between catchment runoff, the condition of coastal habitats like seagrass, corals, and mangroves, and the health of the fish communities that depend on them.

During his time with us, Paul has been involved in designing, implementing, and managing monitoring programs and has been instrumental in developing the Ecosystem Health Report Cards.

“There’s not one person I worked with that I haven’t been in awe of in terms of their dedication, professionalism, and passion for the program and Natural Resource Management more generally,” he says.

Paul is passionate about the protection, restoration, and recovery of Moreton Bay and this has always been, and always will be, a driving force of his. He has been visiting the Bay for more than 20 years and feels like he is still discovering what makes it a truly special place.

“If every decision we make on a daily basis can be linked to the protection or restoration of our natural resources (no matter how small) then it’s a good day,” he says.

Although Healthy Land & Water is sad to see him go, we are excited for what lies ahead for Paul and are immensely grateful for his invaluable contributions and incredible dedication to Healthy Land & Water. We wish him all the best.
