Containers for Change - seven billion containers and counting!
Queensland Containers for Change scheme celebrated a milestone recently, with seven billion containers returned since the program's 2018 launch.
Seven billion containers and counting
In 2023 alone, a staggering 1.13 billion containers were returned, breaking monthly records consistently throughout the year, which benefits both the environment and communities.
Over $700 million has been refunded to Queenslanders, while nearly $11 million has been donated to charities and community groups.
Starting 1 November 2023, the scheme will expand to include glass wine and pure spirit bottles, increasing the recovery of glass for remanufacturing into new glass bottles and other applications such as home insulation.
