Congratulations to the Aura Community Advisory Group!
Congratulations to Stockland and the Aura Community Advisory Group – which is facilitated by Healthy Land &Water – for taking out the Property Council of Australia, National Award for Excellence in Innovation!
Aura Stockland
Stockland’s master-planned city of Aura on the Sunshine Coast will be the first new city in Australia to be designed and constructed to the world’s highest environmental and sustainability standards and is home to the nation’s largest wetland rehabilitation project.
The Aura Community Advisory Group works closely with Stockland to help it deliver on its EPBC commitments while also maximising community involvement in site restoration activities. The group oversees the Aura Community Stewardship Program, which has resulted in improvements to the Aura masterplan, research partnerships with universities, community-led rehabilitation initiatives, and much more.
Aura has already received a 6 Star Green Star – Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, the nation’s first city-building project to achieve this. In 2015, after receiving support from the Federal Government’s Green Army program, it collaborated with Healthy Land & Water and Conservation Volunteers Australia to fund, train, and manage a team of jobseekers to rehabilitate the Bells Creek Catchment.
The award was collected by Mark Stephens, Senior Environment and Community Development Manager at Stockland, at the awards gala dinner at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on May 7. Well done to Stockland and all involved for a great team effort!
